Open gardens

A friend and I had a lovely day out on Sunday. The first stop was to a friend's farm at Cradoc. Alan had struck all manner of beautiful plants and we came away with lots of goodies after a lovely homemade morning tea provided by Jane. It is lovely to have such good friends.

I have started to transplant the hydrangeas (1 out of 4 in, where will I put the others!), a lovely old rose set to climb up my back fence but still quite a few to go. No photos but I will once they start to flower! Actually so many photos to follow here I think there will be too many in this post but I couldn't leave any out! I also have 6 waratahs to put in, the spot is weeded and ready, just need the time!

Next we went to Lanes End, 174 Lanes Road, Glen Huon. Some very interesting scuptures and figures throughout the garden. The rhododendrons were spectacular as were the mature trees. So many grevilleas I couldn't keep count.

Love the steps!

Off they go!!

Hmmm what have we here!

Caw Caw

This old man was hiding at the base of a tree
Then off to Jerrup Langi (House of Friends) 92 Cross Road, Grove. The Japanese maples through this garden were spectacular, the colours were so varied. Pencil pines were repeated through the garden in groups of three or singularly as an anchor tree.

The vegie patch
Then we wandered on to Kurrawin, 86 Cross Road, Grove - yes just a small walk away (well just next door). This garden had so many rooms, you just wandered from one area to the next, lots of roses, camelias and rhododendrons.

All ready to repel all borders

Another little man hiding in the undergrowth

More beautiful steps

The house is circa 1900, this is a beautiful window just about hidden by the camelia hedge.

More pin cushions

During the week I received a huge bag of walnut shells so I decided I should finish my pin cushions. After a bit more crushing they went in beautifully.

I even put a few pins in for the photo but of course had to miss the animals, will I ever be able to stick pins in them? So cute. Apologies for the border but I have been practising my photoshop skills.

MPAY - My pincushion(s)

Vic's posting sent me into a searching frenzy. I know they are somewhere, I know I wouldn't throw them out!!!

Two pincushions made for me many years ago by my children. Why is it that everyone seems to make a strawberry pincushion? Here they are and the strawberry even has pins in it!

P.S Came across these fabulous pincushions on my favourite shopping site Etsy

Fujian experience

A delegation from the Fujian Province in China gave a free concert in the Federation Concert Hall tonight.

  There was a huge crowd

Then came the welcome speaches

 Then the acrobats
 The plate spinners
 and the puppeteers
and the plate spinners - well different ones
 the beautiful singer
 and the dancers
 more puppets
and last but not least the rope spinners

Thank you for a great concert!
Sleep in for me tomorrow as we have a holiday in Southern Tasmania yay!!

My Place & Yours - on the shelf

I am joining in with Vic's (of Punky & Me) meme for My Place & Yours. The first one is On the Shelf. But which shelf??

These were my mother's treasured tea set. Now on a shelf at my place. Also a present from my brother (from an overseas trip) hanging behind it.

Little bits and pieces on my mantlepiece, I bought the lovely lady in Hong Kong when I was there last year with my daughter. The plate on the end was a present from another brother when he went to Turkey.

The heater makes a handy shelf! The photo is my father with his mother and brothers and sisters...a long time ago. Dad is the one in the front.

Four seasons

I awoke this morning to snow on the mountain!
But by the time I arrived home tonight from work, what a difference, such a lovely day that I went outside in the garden for half an hour. This photo was taken at 6PM as I arrived home.
This is a sneak peak of the project I started yesterday, not telling :)after all it is nearly the season for secrets.
